A galaxy of stars turned out Saturday for “City Year Spring Break 2012: Destination Education,” a carnival-like event on the lot at Sony Pictures in Culver City. Attendees included Dianna Agron from "Glee," Jon Hamm and Kiernan Shipka from "Mad Men," Liam Hemsworth of "The Hunger Games," Ariel Winter from "Modern Family," Jessica Capshaw of “Grey’s Anatomy,” Hannah Simone of “New Girl,” George Kotsiopoulos of “Fashion Police,” Teresa Palmer of “I Am Number 4,” broadcaster and former NFL star Michael Strahan, Mena Suvari of “American Beauty,” Jason Ritter of “Parenthood” and lots more. The event raised $1.2 million for City Year Los Angeles, which provides tutoring and mentoring for disadvantaged children.
The Kentucky Derby on Saturday reportedly drew a record attendance of 165,000. While the winner was a surprise -- I'll Have Another beat long odds to win -- we placed our bets on fashion and weren't disappointed. Hats were out in full force, as per usual. Italian fashion magnate Diego Della Valle announced plans to reopen the house of Schiaparelli, the storied couturier that closed in 1954. The announcement comes as the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art prepares to open its highly anticipated exhibition "Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations," focusing on the work of house founder Elsa Schiaparelli and Prada's Miuccia Prada, two Italian designers from different eras. The exhibit opens Thursday.

In an interview with the London Evening Standard, singer Beth Ditto talks about a lot of things, including Karl Lagerfeld's controversial remarks awhile back in which he called Adele fat. Ditto brushes off the entire thing, saying she thinks "people give him way too much power. He’s just an eccentric designer who makes amazing art but doesn’t always say the coolest [stuff]." Hmmm. I wonder if we'll be seeing her at Chanel come fashion week.
After being a finalist in 2006, 2008 and 2009, Thom Browne has won the 2012 Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for fashion.
